Matthew Deckard, Corporate Chef at Taco Mac, is getting a new restaurant named in his honor. Chef Deckard has been with Taco Mac since 2005, before which he spent 5 years at Metrotainment’s Garrison’s Broiler & Tap as its executive chef. With the original Taco Mac not far away in Virginia Highlands, Deckard’s Kitchen & Kegs will be the second concept launched by the same owners. Operated by the Tappan Street Restaurant Group, the parent company of Taco Mac, Deckard’s Kitchen & Kegs is to open in early September, although I know little about their menu or concept as yet. According to their Facebook page,”Deckard’s Kitchen and Kegs is a casual concept with a vintage tavern appeal. We will be serving craft food, craft beer and artisan liquors with seasonal menus and features. We will always use local produce when available. “Located at 650 Ponce de Leon Avenue, the restaurant is closest to the street within the Whole Foods and Home Depot shopping center. Taking space that had most recently been Matsuri Japanese Restaurant, Deckard’s is on the second level, above Qdoba and Mattress Firm. I think the second level space will be tough, and even with City Hall East currently across the street, crime is a problem, but if anyone can make a go of it, the Tappan Street team can.
